bills in accessible format?

Hi all. There wasn't a particular catagory where I felt this should go so thought I'd post it here. I was just wondering for those of you who pay bills how many of the companies you pay bills for have an accessible format. For example our electric company here offers their bill in braille or on tape. I can also view my bills online. So I'm just kind of curious of how many companies provide us with accessible format of a bill.

Troy, I live in Maryland. Verizon makes their bills available in braile, and of course, on line. My cellphone company, credit card company, and just about all the companies I know are only too hapy to tell us how much we owe them, so you can probably get this information over the phone from an automated system. Now, if there was only a way to wipe out the amount due (lol.)

Yes. Verizon offers their bill in braille. If you get a cellphone with Verizon, you can also get them to send it to you in braille if you get the one-bill. However, you can also view all of it online as well. Comcast doesn't provide braille bills but you can view it online if you wanted to. I personally don't do this because it basicly stays the same. Right now I pay all my bills over the phone which works out well for me. I wonder if our electric company provides bills in accessible formats? I'll have to check that one out.

I scan my bills, and use online Bill Pay (through my bank) to send out checks. This means that I'm dealing with the same information as everyone else, and paying in the same way, which I'd think would be helpful if their is ever a dispute.

Chris, I agree. I haven't gone to on-line billpaying yet myself, but I'm getting more confident in the system. I remember when scanners weren't particularly reliable, and am paranoid about getting the right amounts, but that too is changing.

Well, I view them online, and scan them.

I do it all online and never had an issue with that. Phone, electric, credit cards (I've used Chase, Bank of America, Wachovia, Citi Bank, Household Bank and a few others), the only bill I can't pay online is my Home Owners Association fee which I have to do by check but they allow me to write checks for 3 to 6 months and then just leave them with the person in charge of collecting the checks, even my mortgage is paid through automatic withdrawals.

Well, for now, the only bill that i get in Braille is my Verizon cell phone bill. They also sent me the phone's manual in Braille, too. I used to get bank statements in Braille, but that was when I lived in a different state, and had a different bank. I'm not sure if my current bank offers statements in Braille, but I'm going to find out. I'd really like to know. I'd also like to have my other bills in Braille as well, but I'm not sure if the companies offer it or not. Guess I'll check that one out too.

You got your phone manual in braille? How did you do that? Do you just contact verizon? Because that's who I have. I have found online payment to be pretty accessible so far.

My Nextel bill comes in braille (well the majority of the time it does,) and I pay it over the phone along with everything else. Most of my other's though I just check the balance with their autimated system, and I've started paying my credit card bill on line since they won't give me the option of paying it over the phone without charging me $10 to do so, so I just check it all on line when it comes time to pay it.

When I went to sign up with verizon, I didnt' know that I could get the bill or the phone manual in Braille. The lady who helped us set up our service was the one who told me about it, and asked if I'd be interested. So, yes, I suggest that you contact Verizon and ask if your phone's manual is available in Braille, if you're interested.

well, good idea. because my manual is in print. but you can use it online also. anyway, how can you get your bills on tape. and how would any of you who have bills on tape manage to pay them?

You can only get bills on tape if the service caries that feature. I'm guessing you'd send a check to the company to pay it but I pay online.

Sometimes when the company you buy services from can be paid online if you use your bank's BillPay" feature. Most companies though have direct online payments and I use that. But either you can write them a blank check they keep on file and charge every month and the money is automatically withdrawn from your bank account or you can sign up that company through the Bill Pay feature of your online banking (most banks have this, Wachovia does for sure). Cool thing about that is in one place you can see how much you owe all the different companies without having to log in to all those separate web pages.
